Hayley Miller | Artist Portfolio

About Me
Hi there! My name is Hayley Miller, and I am an artist and self-taught animator. I am 17 years old and currently studying at Narrabundah College, where I major in Visual Arts, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Psychology, and English.
Being an artist has been a longstanding passion for me ever since I was first able to pick up a pencil. Before I started my schooling career at my current college, I relied on online tutorials, visual cues and digital media to build my understanding of visual hierarchy, colour, symbolism and other important art techniques.

Many things artistically inspire me; however, nature and animal-focused stories like The Lion King (1994), Wings of Fire (a book series about dragons), and Warrior Cats (a book series about cats) are at the core of my early creative development. These works inspired me to draw and eventually led me to animation.

Key artists who have influenced my art style today include abstract painter Piet Mondrian and comic artist Ben Hed. Both for their fun, expressive art and genuine passion for the artwork they create. Animal documentaries that use storytelling as a means to educate about the animal experience also inspire me, like those narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Today, my art almost always involves pictures of characters I created or ideas based on fiction, nonfiction, or real events involving the natural world. I often task myself with personal art exercises to challenge my creativity in character design and further develop my artistic and storytelling skills. My study of Psychology and English at College also helps me with this.

I dream of one day being a children's storybook writer and illustrator, and I hope to also create an animated children's series involving the adventures of animals.
